Darian Simerson is an award-winning film composer, producer, and songwriter from New Haven, Connecticut. His music has been performed most notably by the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and Copland House Players, as well as the Wall Street Chamber Players and numerous soloists from the Yale School of Music and NHSO.
Trained as a jazz musician, Darian was multiple-time first chair for regional CMEA ensembles and runner-up for 2017 all-state guitarist at the age of fifteen.
In the same year, Darian was among six students selected by the New Haven Symphony for its “Young Composers” program, during which he studied for two years under acclaimed pianist-composer Michael Stephen Brown.
In 2020, Darian won the New Haven Symphony’s international composition contest with his orchestral work “the fallen.” In 2022, the same piece was premiered by the orchestra at SCSU under the baton of Alasdair Neale.
In 2023, Darian completed his music degree at Yale College, where he studied composition with Kathryn Alexander and Konrad Kaczmarek and scored a multitude of student productions both onscreen and onstage.
In his scores, he aims to meld timeless lyricism with cutting-edge production techniques. His in-depth knowledge of both live instrumentation and midi programming allows him to create orchestral mockups of extreme realism.
